Background Analysis
The Police Department requests approval to continue with a grant application to the Minnesota Department of Commerce for the prevention of auto and other vehicle theft prevention in Minneapolis and to serve as fiscal agent for the State to reimburse other law enforcement agencies for auto theft program expenses as approved and directed by the Minnesota Auto Theft Prevention Board. Funding is provided for the ongoing Minneapolis Auto Theft Prevention Program to operate its Bait Vehicle program, for auto theft prevention program funding to be paid to other law enforcement agencies as directed by the Minnesota Auto Theft Board, and for Police Department expenses for serving as fiscal agent for the reimbursement of other law enforcement agencies. The Minneapolis Auto Theft Prevention program will consider all data on car-jackings and incorporate this information in its enforcement efforts.
